ABOUT

.

OUR MISSION

for Equity in Tech.

The current systems of power in tech and society deliberately exclude most of the population, and we’re currently 100 years away from gender parity in the industry. GET Cities is impatient to close that gap and has actionable solutions to bring change to local communities while catalyzing a national movement.

Tech is at the top of the list when thinking about economically powerful industries. Technology dictates trends, globally moves the needle across industry sectors, and allows more people access to sustainable, fiscally beneficial work. It’s also more inaccessible than most industries and exacerbates other inequities in society due to its outsized influence.

We started with a focus on women in tech, but we quickly realized the problems went deeper and solutions needed to be broader – including starting with a broader understanding and additional focus on trans and nonbinary people, who have historically been even further left out. Through ongoing listening and adaptation, we’ve come to work toward increasing the power and influence of all historically excluded people.

We still have a lens on gender – always but not exclusively. And we still believe tech as an industry has the greatest potential for speed and breadth of impact. But we sometimes push those boundaries too, as tech becomes more and more ubiquitous with all work and life.

GENDER

and

TECH

are the lenses we use for our work,

but the goal is

economic and social justice

OUR GOAL:

Radically increase Equity

As a national initiative with hubs in Chicago, the DC Metro Area, and Miami, Gender Equity in Tech (GET) Cities works to radically increase equity and intersectionality in tech through our three signature pillars:

ALIGNING THE ECOSYSTEM OF ORGANIZATIONS WORKING IN TECH AROUND SHARED GOALS, VALUES, AND ACCOUNTABILITY
EXPANDING ACCESS TO CAPITAL AND CAPITAL DEPLOYMENT FOR MARGINALIZED COMMUNITIES TO ADVANCE THROUGH ENTREPRENEURSHIP

INCREASING ACCESS AND ADVANCEMENT TO THE TECH INDUSTRY FOR MARGINALIZED PEOPLE, WITH A FOCUS ON GENDER
